Showcase Booths
The Desert Knowledge Business Showcase is an integral component of the Symposium, allowing businesses, community organisations, and organisations supporting business and community development from across desert Australia to promote their ideas, solutions, products and services. The Showcase also presents an excellent opportunity for those who are looking to build their networks with businesses in desert regions.
Among the 50 plus booths you will find:
· Businesses that are members of the Desert Knowledge Australia Cross Border Business Networks
· Partners of the Desert Knowledge Cooperative Research Centre
· The organisations of many of the presenters in the Symposium
· Desert Knowledge Australia’s partners in cross border networking activities
· Gifts to take back home as memories of your time in Alice Springs and of the Desert Knowledge Symposium!
· Check your Symposium Satchel for a complete listing of booths.
The Meeting Place
Throughout the Symposium, presentations, demonstrations and business briefings will take place at the Meeting Place within the Business Showcase site. There will also be network meetings of cross border businesses and some opportunities to meet with Symposium presenters in an informal setting.
Check the noticeboard in the Business Showcase area and the daily Desert Knowledge News to find out what’s on at The Meeting Place.
The Exchange Café
Grab a cappuccino or a café latte and take a seat in The Exchange Café to share some desert knowledge or do some desert business! It is also a place to relax and reflect or to chat with new and old friends.
Tasting New Technologies
Try out the latest in communications technologies in the Business Showcase. Courtesy of CISCO Systems, you can test a range of collaborative business communication tools available over the Internet including web conferencing, video calls, audio conferencing, video conferencing and instant messaging. You can even phone home using a free IP Phone! Just visit one of the booths on the east side of the room and have a go.
These communication tools are already being used by some businesses in the Desert Knowledge Australia cross border business networks. Desert Knowledge Australia will be exploring these technologies further to assess the extent of their value to desert businesses.
The booths showcasing these technologies are hosted by Desert Knowledge Australia’s business networking partners. Meet the partners and find out more about their communities, businesses and environments: Pilbara, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie-Boulder in WA; Upper Spencer Gulf and the Outback of SA; Broken Hill in NSW; Longreach and Mt Isa in Queensland; and Tennant Creek and Alice Springs in the NT.
