Desert Leaders connect with East Coast Leaders

Participants of the Alice Springs Desert Leadership Program have spent a week connecting with senior executives and leaders along the east coast to further develop their leadership skills.
Participant Ian McAdam said “The east coast retreat was invaluable. In one week we got so much information and knowledge, that as a group it blew us away. We got to interact with some amazing people and learn from their experiences and perspectives”.

$340K to reform remote governance

remoteFOCUS, a national initiative facilitated by Desert Knowledge Australia, today received $340,000 from the Pilbara Development Commission, through the Regional Grants Scheme to run the remoteFOCUS Pilbara Project.
The remoteFOCUS Pilbara Project will consider how governments need to alter how they govern, administer and interact with the Pilbara region. The project involves developing recommended measures and reforms for the Pilbara region, and also testing and improvement of the national remoteREFORM Package. The Project will also enable a dialogue around how governments can better govern and interact with the communities of the Pilbara region so that the government contribution to the development of the region is most effective. Desert Knowledge Australia hosts Social Inclusion Board

This week Desert Knowledge Australia played host to the Australian Social Inclusion Board in Alice Springs. The Board conducted their board meeting at the Desert Knowledge Precinct and took part in a Community Leadership Forum with participants in the Alice Springs Desert Leadership Program.
The Australian Social Inclusion Board is the main advisory body to the Australian Government on ways to achieve better outcomes for the most disadvantaged in our community and to improve the social inclusion in society as a whole.
"The Australian Government's vision for social inclusion links back to a key underlying aim of Desert Knowledge Australia, to help build harmonious and inclusive desert communities"

First Desert Leadership group announced (Archived)

Desert Knowledge Australia has announced the 19 successful participants that have been chosen for the first Alice Springs Desert Leadership Program.
The Alice Springs Desert Leadership Program is an initiative of Desert Knowledge Australia and the Alice Springs community to increase the leadership capability of Alice Springs through an intercultural leadership development program for up-and-coming leaders.
John Huigen, CEO Desert Knowledge Australia said "We are thrilled to announce the 19 individuals that will be taking part in the inaugural Alice Springs Desert Leadership Program."
"The participants represent a broad cross-section of the Alice Springs' community and were selected based on the potential for leadership they have already shown and their commitment to the future of the town."

Desert Leaders developing Pacific Leaders

An intercultural leadership framework developed in Alice Springs will be exported to the Pacific this week when Desert Knowledge Australia CEO, John Huigen and Desert Knowledge Australia Leadership Development Mentor, John van Geldermalsen present at the Emerging Pacific Leaders' Dialogue (EPLD) in Samoa.

Search is on for Desert leaders

The search is on for the next generation of leaders for the Alice Springs Desert Leadership Program. Applications are now being sought for the program that will start in April 2010.

Local businesses fund innovative campaign

The successful ‘What’s Your Dream?’ television campaign will begin airing on Imparja this week with a host of advertisements promoting positive messages about education and employment for young people.

Desert Knowledge Australia is thrilled by yesterday's announcement that the bid for a Cooperative Research Centre for Remote Economic Participation (CRC-REP) was successful. The CRC-REP will have a major focus on delivering solutions to economic disadvantage in remote Australia, aligning with Desert Knowledge Australia's vision.

Precinct hosts Climate Change Congress for Youth Leaders

Solar Centre leads the way with cutting-edge technology

The Desert Knowledge Australia Solar Centre will continue building its reputation as a world class testing and monitoring facility with the next stage of development underway. A further eight systems, from seven companies new to the Centre, will be installed by early 2010. Each new installation brings a unique feature to the technologies already in place.
