Desert Leaders connect with East Coast leaders

Participants of the Alice Springs Desert Leadership Program have spent a week connecting with senior executives and leaders along the east coast to further develop their leadership skills.

Participant Ian McAdam said “The east coast retreat was invaluable. In one week we got so much information and knowledge, that as a group it blew us away. We got to interact with some amazing people and learn from their experiences and perspectives”.

John Rawnsley, Leadership Development Manager for Desert Knowledge Australia said "Through access to senior leaders in the corporate, diplomatic and community sectors our up-and-coming leaders gained connections, insights and knowledge. They were able to learn from people like the US Ambassador and Dr Robert Care, CEO and Chair of Arup Australasia.“

“An important part of the trip was for the group to work together and reflect on their place in Alice Springs and connect with the opportunities and experiences, the value of which is immeasurable”.

The group spent a week in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. In Sydney they met with Sydney West Youth Peer Education (SWYPE) to learn about the innovative youth programs that have been developed to address social issues. In Canberra they met with the US Ambassador. And in Melbourne they shadowed senior executives from National Australia Bank and Arup to learn about working in collaboration and the modern approaches of the corporate sector.

The Alice Springs Desert Leadership Program is an initiative of Desert Knowledge Australia and the Alice Springs community to increase the leadership capability of Alice Springs through an intercultural leadership development program for up-and-coming leaders.

The Alice Springs Desert Leadership Program is sponsored by the Australian Government, Northern Territory Government, National Australia Bank, Mbantua Foundation, Centrecorp, Alice Springs Town Council, Fluid Power, Ross Engineering and Yeperenye Shopping Centre.
